2009: The Year of the "Accidental Entrepreneur"
I recently came across an NY Times article that was pretty interesting. The gist of the article had to do with the current economic climate. There is a trend emerging. The “accidental entrepreneur” or the “forced entrepreneur” is on the rise.
Many displaced corporate folks are finding their creative juices and taking action for themselves. Some of these people would not typically think of themselves as entrepreneurs or seriously consider venturing out in business for themselves. However, with layoffs being prevelant and corporations going out of business many business professionals are finding success in non-traditional ways.
Many businesses are founded in poor economic times. More than half of the current Fortune 500 companies were founded in a recession or bare markets. Examples are Starbucks, PetSmart and Intuit.
Although the job market for business professionals is bleak, it’s inspiring to learn so many finding alternatives and achieving success.

I began blogging when I couldn’t work any more due to my medical conditions. We still needed money so I had to find something I could do.

Anyone who has a bad enough eating habit is going to find a way to produce revenue. I’m just glad I decided to work for myself long before the economy sneezed.

Funny you mention the Fortune 500… I recently read that a very large majority of the million and billionaires never even went to college. It’s what you make of your time – online and off – that’s going to make the difference
