Entrepreneurship: Great Option for Non-Retirement
I came across a great article online today about entrepreneurship. It discussed how entrepreneurship is an attractive alternative to baby boomers approaching retirement.
Here is an excerpt: “Entrepreneurship is not only a way to earn a living, it is an enjoyable lifestyle choice for many who have grown tired of working for others. It is reasonable to expect that many baby boomers who would have considered retirement, but can’t due to their financial situation, may choose self-employment.”

Having freelanced and then arrived and stayed on the internet for over 20 years, I cannot think of a better way to make a living. Things are slow at the moment, but I believe it’s a typical cycle. A little slower than “normal” but bound to pick up since the internet has so many opportunities and directions.

I can see consulting or freelance work, but starting your own business when you’re ready to retire is a daunting prospect!

It is an option but tenacity is the key. There are many baby boomers who still have the drive and would excel in this field given 1/2 a chance.

Entrepreneurship is a tremendous way to go IF you have the traits necessary to make a business happen.
For me, the single greatest motivation for it is that I’ll never be downsized!

It seems more interesting than spending years on just hobbies etc. Why not.

As a small business owner, I can tell you it is not easy but definitely worth it.

it’s part of my plan. It takes some doing and finding the things that work for you..but I’m sure the end result is worth the effort!

I was discussing something similar the other day. In our very rural area, small businesses are dying out because young people don’t seem to want to take them on. Probably they are the right thing for someone with a young family, but they could be ideal for people approaching retirement.

With people living longer lives, this seems like a good way to keep active, but it must be the type of work that you love. No one wants to be “working” when they are retired!
